Double Bun Whimsical Updo + Makeup Look!

This double bun updo is sure to add a touch of whimsey to your formal occasion look :) I love the classic bun - at my current length it truly is one of my go-to protective styles. But I really wanted to experiment with using the classic bun as a foundation for a more whimsical asymmetrical formal updo. In conceptualizing the style I kept thinking about Princess Leia from Star Wars and her iconic double bun style. I wondered what Princess Leia's iconic bun style would look like if they were both on one side of her head with an angled part instead of her signature part down the middle. So with that thought in mind, I started playing in my own hair and came up with this simpler-than-it-looks style :) Initially I wasn't sure how this would look on textured/stretched hair, because the style that was originally in my mind was done on blown-out hair.  Perhaps one day I will try it on blown-out hair - but since I really wasn't in the mood to blow-out my hair or use any form of heat, I just styled it on braidout-stretched hair. And I really loved the outcome! For an extra touch and to mimic the look of stars in space, I added some rhinestone ball decorative chignon pins that helped transform this simple updo to an even dressier bridal style :)

INSPIRATION FOR THE VIDEO CONCEPT & IMAGERY
Along with the style, I really wanted to create a concept-style hair video to go with it. This time I played around with darker, more dramatic lighting for both the video and accompanying photography. For the concept - I found inspiration from all over the place - most of which had touches of whimsey and fantasy :) Some of my major sources of inspo includes the following:
~
Galactic / Space / Fantasy Imagery
Star Wars / Princess Leia - specifically her signature buns :)
The NeverEnding Story Movie (yes, the one from the 80s lol!)  - specifically this Bastian & Empress Moonchild scene at the end
Disney Princesses - specifically Jasmine (from Aladdin) and Merida (from Brave)
Phildel's "The Disappearance of the Girl" concept album - specifically "Beside You" and "Storm Song"
The Makeup Republic (Awilda) - specifically this makeup look
Klairdelysart - just because her channel is awesome!
"The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran - because the poetic words in this book are beautiful!
