Kinky Curly Winter Wash & Go

Sunday, January 27, 2013

When it comes to wash and gos, I don't discriminate against seasons of the year that I choose to do them.  I'm finding that year-round I basically rotate back and forth between wash & go and stretched hair phases depending on my mood. So I'm definitely not one to swear off of wearing wash & gos just because the temperature gets a little frigid outside :) While my winter wash & go process is pretty much the same as it is any other time of the year, I definitely do a few things differently in the winter to help minimize dryness and to be more practical with styling given that my hair will be out in cold weather.  When it's cold outside, I generally prefer to do my wash & go at night and then use a diffuser to dry it before bedtime. I also tend to change up my wash & go product combinations and reach for stylers that are more moisturizing. Kinky Curly Curling Custard is one of my all time favorite stylers to reach for during winter because I find that it's more moisturizing than other gels and it gives me great definition that lasts for days! Which means I don't have to re-do my wash and go too often in cold weather seasons. Oh and by the way, when using Kinky Curly I don't discriminate against leave-in conditioners either. While the Kinky Curly works perfect with its "sister" leave-in product Knot Today, I find that it also works great with other leave-in conditioners as well - so I just use whatever I have on hand without a second thought. For this wash & go, I chose to use Paul Mitchell's The Conditioner (a.k.a the leave-in I've been pretty obsessed with lately...lol).  To preserve my wash & go for up to 4 days, I follow my pineapple and refresh routine.

  1. I love your hair! I have been wearing wash n gos even though it has been very cold up here in MN. I haven't tried KCCC but to see you use a different leave in conditioner than knot today and get great results is surprising. Your curls are popping and super cute!

    1. Thanks so much Jen! 9 times out of 10 when I use KCCC, I know its going to be a good hair day...lol. For the longest time I was afraid to use any leave in other than Knot today with it. But one day out of the blue I was feeling rebellious and adventurous and just threw caution to the wind and tried something different from my stash! And my wash & go survived! lol :) I love me some Knot Today, but I'm happy that I've been able to give other leave-ins some love too :)
