My (Finally Finished) Mini Twists!

Sunday, August 12, 2012

Yay! I am finally, finally done with my mini twists after 5 drawn-out days of what seemed like never-ending twisting (The last time I did mini-twists earlier this year, I completed them over a three day period). It took me that long for a variety of reasons....because I got off to a late start, because I twist really, really slow, and because I got distracted really easily along the way. I started twisting on clean hair that was air dried. Then I used Qhemet's detangling ghee to moisturize each section before twisting and twisted with a tiny bit of aloe vera gel for a soft hold.  Even though it took me forever to complete, I'm pretty happy with the final results and its always fun to get to see and enjoy a little bit of my actual length! I'm also looking forward to experimenting with styling these twists, but I definitely want to keep styling simple.  I already know I'll probably wear a lot of half-up, half-down styles as well as high buns (as pictured above), but maybe I'll try updos similar to this simple mini twist updo I did back in January. For bedtime, I plan to wrap my twists like I did in this post and tie with my satin scarf to keep the twists stretched and to help the twists fall nicely the next day. As always, my goal is to try to keep theses twists in for at least 2 - 3 weeks or a full month if I can push it. We shall see - there comes a point with every set of twists I do that I suddenly start to miss my loose hair and want to undo the twists (lol). But however long I end up keeping them in, I'm definitely looking forward to a break from having to do my hair :)

  1. Aren't you concerned about them locking?

    1. Hey there! I'm not really worried about them locking at all. I didn't twist with much product and in the past when I've done mini twists that hasn't happened. I doubt I'll keep them in longer than 3 weeks to a month though...if I can even stand it that long, lol. The longest I've ever kept in mini twists so far has been 19 days :)

  2. Your right, mini twists really show off your length. Look at you will all that hair past your shoulders. Good luck with keeping them me, please report how you deal with frizz.

    1. Girrrrl, me and frizz usually aren't friends when it comes to mini twists, lol. Especially in the very front and at the nape of my neck. My baby hairs almost always slide out of the base of the twist and I usually end up having to re-twist the twists along my front hairline so it can keep looking neat...I'll definitely keep you posted if it gets out of hand like that again :)

  3. Five days, huh? The most I've done is two days. I think I'd lose my mind twisting for five days. Your hair looks totally worth the investment. You sound like me only lasting for 19 days. My number was only 11 days for a long time until I forced the issue with myself. Using a light oil helps to keep the hair -- or at least my hair -- from fuzzing up too terribly.

Your twists look great! Enjoy them for 19 days and maybe beyond!

    1. LOL! Thanks chica! I approached delirium at about day 3 hahahah! These set of twists could have totally be done in less time...if I didn't take so many "distraction breaks" :) Oh and thanks for the frizz tip! I'll more than likely need it!
