Switching It Up With a Twist-Out

Friday, June 22, 2012

For the last week or so I've been itching to switch it up from the wash and gos I've been diligently doing every 3 to 4 days. Don't get me wrong, I love my wash and gos - they are truly my go-to signature hair style. But every now and then I get the urge to change it up and do something different. (In fact - I've been threatening lately to do some mini-twists because I've been in and out of one of those I-don't'-feel-like-doing-my-hair moods.) So on Thursday night I found myself putting about 20 medium-sized twists in my hair as I watched some random reality TV that I recorded. This was definitely lazy twisting - as I did not use any kind of tool to part my hair, and I only lightly finger-detangled each section prior to twisting. I also didn't bother to use any product with hold. I twisted on dry hair because I wanted the twist-out to be more elongated and stretched. The only products I used to twist each section was a mist of water, a dime-sized amount of Oyin Hair Dew to moisturize, and Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine to seal the ends of my twists. To keep the twists stretched overnight I simply pinned the twists on each side to the opposite side and covered with a satin scarf (see pic below). The next morning I coated my hands with more of the Nourish & Shine before untwisting. Because I didn't use products with any hold, I tried to not separate or fluff my hair too much to minimize the frizz. I also knew that without any hold this would be one-day hair. But I didn't care because it was Friday. And the weekend will surely bring with it some re-twisting :)
