Textured Bun: Low Side Chignon

Friday, December 02, 2011

I have really been loving buns lately! I think I'm beginning to prefer looser, more textured buns over the sleek and structured ballerina-style buns I used to wear back in the day (in my relaxer days). But whether messy or structured, buns are fast becoming one of my favorite protective styles. And they are much easier to do now that my hair has a bit more length and is also stretched from a braidout. Today for work I did a variation on the textured bun I wore earlier this week: a low side chignon. Not only was this protective style great for a professional setting, but I can totally see this bun being perfect for a dressier occasion like a wedding or a night out (with the addition of a few pretty hair accessories).

This is how I wear this bun to work

Below I did a more slicked back version for a night out by misting water on my edges and then smoothing on a little aloe vera gel with the palms of my hands. Then I tied a silk scarf over to it to set my waves in place while I continued to get ready :)
