My New Favorite Twist-out Method!

Friday, October 07, 2011

This week I've been rocking a twist-out, and I have to say that of all the twist-outs I've done this year (which I admit hasn't been that many) I like these twist-out results the most! This time, instead of doing loose twists all over my head like I usually do, I did about 16 flat twists (pictured below). I've seen other naturals on youtube use this flat twist-out method several times before, but it never occurred to me to try it on my own hair until recently after watching (and re-watching) this youtube video. Not to mention, flat-twisting has never been my strong suite. But I was determined to teach myself how to flat twist so that I could attempt to replicate some of the fabulous twist-out results I've seen on youtube. I'm still not that great at flat-twisting, but with each time I've re-twisted my hair this week to maintain this style, I felt like I got a little better at it.

I used bobby pins to help the flat twists to stay tight and
 "layed-down" as it dried.
I really liked this twist-out method for two reasons in particular: 1) It took me less time to put in the flat twists than it usually takes me to do loose twists and 2) I get the curl definition and overall shape that I really like. I also tried to minimize the products I used to twist my hair because I didn't want my hair to look/feel too weighed down or product-y. So this time to twist, I only used water, Jane Carter Nourish & Shine, and a little bit of aloe vera gel for a light hold. Below are pictures of my first, second and third day hair!

Third day hair. I loved my hair on day 3! It was big and fluffy :)
