Length Check (June 2011) + 6 Months Natural

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Wow, I can't believe I've been natural for 6 months already! (Well, technically the 6 month mark falls on the 21st of this month). Every day since my big chop (on December 21, 2010) has been an adventure and a learning experience with my hair.  And in that time, I've developed a healthy obsession fascination with figuring out what makes hair tick. I've learned a lot my hair already, but I still have so much yet to learn. I've also come to realize that this is called a hair journey because it is definitely just that - a journey. One that requires a great deal of patience (accepting that growth doesn't happen overnight), perseverance (getting back on track despite setbacks like breakage or heat damage) and flexibility (in those times when you need to figure out how to style your hair differently when the style you intended was an epic fail). Documenting my journey and seeing the progress in pictures so far makes me excited to see what my hair will look like in another 6 months! Now on to the length check :-)

Over the past 6 months I have gained (and retained) approximately 3 inches of growth all around. That equates to about a half of an inch per month (which is the average rate of hair growth per month for most people). As seen in the pics below, I have alot of shrinkage!
