Wash & Go with Kinky Curly Curling Custard
(First day hair)
One of the first all-natural hair products I tried while I was still transitioning was Kinky Curly Curling Custard. It is a moisturizing styling gelly that has awesome ingredients and is glycerin and protein free - which means I don't really have to worry if it will play well in my hair with the weather. I loved it so much that I used it to style my transitioning hair in wash and gos for almost the entire 10 months leading up to my big chop (well, technically until about the 7th month when dealing with the two textures became really annoying and I broke down and got kinky twists...LOL). But since I've been completely natural, I have been trying out so many different styling products (many of which I now love) that its been a while since I've reached for my old favorite - the Curling Custard - when styling my hair. So I decided to revisit it when I did my hair for work today. I followed my usual wash and go routine - using Oyin Hair Dew as my leave-in under the Curling Custard, and then topping it off with my favorite finisher, Curls in a Bottle.

I absolutely loved my hair today! My curls were poppin', shiny and not frizzy despite the rainy weather. It also did not feel crunchy at all (Perhaps the Curls in a Bottle had something to do with that, but with the Curling Custard I've also learned that when applying it a little goes a long way - it has a medium hold and can leave hair feeling slightly crunchy if too much of it is used). I fell in love with the Curling Custard all over again and needless to say, I had serious hand-in-hair syndrome today! :)

Update (5/18/2011): It's the next day and my hand-in-hair syndrome continues! I was able to get second-day hair with the wash and go I did with the Curling Custard yesterday morning. When I got in the shower this morning, I simply stood under the water until my hair was saturated (I did not put my hair in sections or finger-detangle at all this time). Then while still standing in the shower right before I got out, I shook my hair out to separate the curls again as well as to shake out any excess water. Because I only quickly wet my hair and didn't really rinse out any of the product I had applied from the previous day, it appeared that the Curling Custard "re-activated" and defined my curls for the second day in a row. Today however, my hair dried with a bit more volume than it had yesterday. But I loved it! And I think I might have finally found another way to not have to re-do my hair everyday :)

  2. Thanks for the review. I was trying different leave-ins with the kccc such as elucense conditioner, curl junkie curl rehab. With ok results my hair was crunchy. I came across your blog the other day and tried oyin hair dew with it and it was perfect. I was so happy that I found a review that didn't include kckt because my scalp itched really bad with the knot today. So again I thank you so much and your hair is beautiful and so are you. Have a blessed weekend.
